Grow it, share it, eat it.
On 20 March 2010 Groundwork Solent staff members and volunteers took part in the ‘Your Health Your Community Your Vote’ Thornhill Participatory Budgeting Event at Thornhill Baptist Church.
Thornhill residents voted on how £100,000 in health funding should be allocated within the community.
Competition for funding was very tight however Groundwork Solent secured £30,000 worth of funding over three years to deliver the Grow It Share Eat It Community Allotment Project to residents living in Thornhill.
Tenants and residents who suffer from short or long term health problems will be able to transform this derelict allotment site into a place where they can grow fresh fruit and vegetables that will be shared out amongst participants. Any spare fruit and vegetables will be distributed to the elderly tenants and residents living in sheltered accommodation.
The project is open to children (accompanied by an adult) and families. There will be two sessions a week, one on Wednesdays for adults and one on a Saturday morning for children and families.
