Groundwork works with schools to deliver innovative environmental education, transform school grounds and re-engage disaffected young people into education.
Our work with school children links to the national curriculum and helps to illustrate how our individual actions can make a difference to the local and global environment. Teaching young people about their impact on the planet is the first step to changing that behaviour for the better. We can work with your school to support the sustainable schools programme, develop and instigate school travel plans, facilitate school grounds improvements, run specialised class-based activities or build an allotment.
Teachers get training and support to deliver education for sustainable development and we teach children about their responsibilities to the environment. We have pupil-led projects to improve the environmental performance of school buildings and grounds and link with the community to educate children about local history and biodiversity.
We also work with schools to support ‘at risk’ young people, providing them with positive experiences and building the skills that will allow them to move forwards with education, employment or training.
We offer out-of-school activities delivered from our three education centres; Iver Nature Study Centre, the Colne Valley Park Centre and the West London Floating Classroom, which support the national curriculum.
We can help your school become more sustainable.
We use the environment to help re-engage pupils with education - both within the school grounds and outside of the usual educational system.
