Facts & Figures

Here are some facts and figures to show Groundwork South East impact in your neighbourhood during 2009/10:

  • Last year we supported 300 businesses. Our environmental business management team took the first organisation in the UK through BS 8555 environmental accreditation.
  • We are actively involved with 419 schools in the South East, helping them to improve their school grounds, work towards eco-schools status and build learning on sustainability issues through their lesson plans. We worked with 324 teachers, training them in education for sustainable development.
  • Last year we provided 9090 weeks of training. We created and safeguarded over 200 jobs. These opportunities only existed because they were created by Groundwork South East.
  • Last year we planted over 8500 trees. Trees contribute to the quality of open spaces, making neighbourhoods more attractive and reducing the impact of CO2 emmissions.
  • We improved nearly 3million m2 of land thus increasing its value and maintained over 6.7million m2 of land, maintaining its appearance and preserving its utility.
  • We diverted or saved 465 tonnes of CO2 and diverted nearly 23,238 metric tonnes of waste from landfill. We did this by reduced consumption, re-use, recycling, composting and incineration.
  • Last year, adults and young people spent 42,500 days involved in our projects, volunteering.
